We did it!

Our founder Brian celebrated his 80 birthday in September and he was delighted to announce that his special day coincided with The Suzy Fund reaching the wonderful total of £750,000. Well done Brian and all of our wonderful supporters. Brian is now handing over some of the reins to Paul and Monica Haley from St Peter and Paul parish, although he will still play a very active part in The Suzy...

Suzy Bring and Buy Sale

Ben Madigan, the Preparatory Department of Belfast Royal Academy (a well-known grammar school in Belfast, Northern Ireland) will be holding a Bring & Buy Sale on Friday, 23rd November 2012, and all money raised on the day will be donated to the Suzy Fund. The Suzy Fund was selected as the beneficiary of the proceeds from the Bring & Buy Sale as a result of Jake Hamilton aged 9, who is in Prep 6, and four of his classmates, namely, Bryanna Catney, Johnathan Forbes, Tom McKibben and Kerry Upritchard, giving a Powerpoint presentation on the Suzy Fund to the rest of their class. They had to compete against three other groups who each gave a presentation on their chosen Charity. Following the presentations the class was asked to vote for whichever group they considered to be the best. Jakes group’s was the overall winner with a total of 36 votes out of a possible 56 and hence the Suzy Fund will receive the proceeds from the Bring & Buy sale. Needless to say Jake and his team are absolutely delighted. The group then gave their presentation to the whole school at Assembly and received loud...

Art for Life Newcastle

The Suzy Fund invites you to Art for Life at Theatre Royal Newcastle. A small team of artists throughout the UK are selling a broad range of their work to raise valuable funds to provide meals for children in Ethiopia. 10p funds a hot meal for a child in Africa and we hope this exhibition will move us even closer to our next milestone of £750,000. We will be on the top floor of Theatre Royal between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 27th October and it would be fantastic to see you there. The Suzy Fund...

Parkin’s place for music

The Place for Music Folk club in Milngavie was founded and run by Erne Parkin (RIP 2009). For many years, he sent the proceeds from the club to the Suzy Fund, a charity which supports orphans of AIDS victims in Africa. As a tribute to Erne, friends and fellow musicians continue to support the Suzy Fund under the general umbrella of Parkin’s Place for Music, through concerts and events in various venues in and around Milngavie. Wherever possible, we continue to foster and support local talent - which exists in...

Brian Hazell MBE

Congratulations to Brian Hazell, Secretary of the Suzy Fund based in the Parish of St. Peter & Paul Wakefield who has been awarded an MBE in the 2011 New Year’s honour list recognising his work in looking after The Suzy Fund over the last 35 years, during which time he has helped raise over £600,000 for aid projects across the third world, and in countries like Romania too. “This award is not for me” Brian said “but for the people in the parish and elsewhere including St. Martin de Porres, St. Cuthbert’s Ackworth and as far away as Glasgow - who have regularly given for so long to Suzy through direct giving, concerts and other funding raising. Our giving shows that we care, and that we can focus not just on our immediate parish concerns, but on people half a world away who desperately need our help.” You can also see Brian’s interview on the BBC website here...

The Healys Folk Band & The Suzy Fund

John Havelock a former parishioner of St Peter and Paul Church was a member of The Healys. The band have performed together for over 40 years. In 2000 after performing for Suzy at Wakefield Town Hall they decided to give all proceeds from sales of their CDs to Suzy and to date have raised nearly £30,000. 2009 saw the end of the band’s performing days with the sudden death of Erne Parkin a band member. The money donated to The Suzy Fund at Erne’s funeral was sufficient to fund ‘Ernefest’ which supplied food for 1000 children each week for 12 months, a fitting legacy. The group no longer perform but host an annual ‘Art for Life’ exhibition where they sell their art and crafts as well as CDs for Suzy, 2009 and 2010 exhibitions have been held in...
